Education grants are a wonderful way to finance your education, and open doors to the future you never imagined were possible. Especially in today’s difficult and uncertain economic climate, where jobs aren’t so easy to find and a college degree is no longer a guarantee of a decent salary, more and more students are choosing not to attend college or trade school after graduation. Instead, these youngsters immediately enter the workforce, often accepting low-paying jobs with no future,benefits,or room for advancement. For many American students, the needs of the present outweigh the need to plan for the future, and continued education simply isn’t affordable. Particularly for students who need to take care of a family or have no option for financial aid, a college education simply isn’t a realistic option, but the lack of a college degree is likely to keep that student struggling financially throughout adulthood.

Qualifying for education grants often makes higher education possible for those who never viewed education after high school as a viable option. In an economy where more parents are being turned down for loans, credit, and other forms of financing traditionally used to pay for a child’s college educations, grants are playing an increasingly important role. Nearly 70% of all students receive some sort of educational grant or private scholarship, in addition to their student loans. For many, this additional aid makes the difference between being able to afford a college education, and working full-time in a low paying job after graduation.

Unlike student loans, educational grants do not have to be paid back, easing the burden of debt for hard-working college students. Unlike traditional scholarships, educational grants are not strictly merit-based. In fact, the PELL grant, one of the most popular grants in the country, is based upon financial qualifications. Other education grants are available to help students who take a less traditional route to a degree rather than a full-time college program. Grants are available for trade and culinary school programs, health care training programs, and for those enrolled in a community college part-time while working or raising a family.

The goal of education grants is to make the opportunities for a higher education more easily available to everyone, not just students who can afford it. Especially in this economic climate, very few students can succeed without a bit of extra help.
